5Excellent kids detector!
By lazfran98
This detector is splendid for kids, The size is just right and it introduces them into the world of detecting. The detector is of good solid quality and is a little version of an entry level adult model. You do have to explain to them how to use the discrimination controls because they are kind of mixing up for a kid but they pick it up quick. The detector has actually found old cans and coins that have been with regards to 5 feet underground so it searches gorgeous deep. I commend this product!

5Did it's job
By MAH
First let me say I don't profess to recognise much regarding metal detecting. I purchased this metal detector to find my wedding ring, which flew off my finger the other night while I was playing volleyball in the backyard with the kids (it was a chilly night and the ring was loose on my finger.) After an hour of searching, I figured it was worth it to buy an inexpensive metal detector in hopes of finding my ring.

I ordered it on Wednesday, it arrived on Friday (2 day shipping for $3.99 with prime.) I put the batteries in, read through the well-written booklet and did the tests it suggested. We had no difficulties finding the test objects (penny, quarter, nail) so I started "sweeping" the area where I thought it might be. I found it within 15 minutes. Granted, it wasn't buried in the ground or anything, but we did have various other "hits" that were unquestionably objects in the ground - strong signals but we just didn't take the time to dig since I knew my ring was buried in grass, not dirt. The kids can't wait for their turn now that the ring has been found. I think they will get some fun use out of it and they want to dig on our other "hits" from tonight.

The masters for this item were the fast shipping, easy to use right out of the box (just had to insert 2 9V batteries), well-written instructions, and it is Made in the USA. It felt sturdy and well-made but it was short in length (it is a Jr. size, after all) - didn't matter for my use but an adult wanting to do galore severe detecting would want a longer one. The length feels just right for my children (ages 11, 8 and 5) and it is not too heavy, either. It is very simplistic - two dials (one for power/sensitivity and one for target elimination - like for ruling out iron or other metals if you are getting too much junk in your detecting) and one needle gauge called the "Target Indicator". It made a buzz/beep sound that was easy to hear. One thing - I do not see nor did I read regarding where you may plug any earphones in - which is a feature other detectors have.

If you have a specific need (like finding a lost ring!) or if your children want to undertake their hand at metal detecting, this seems like a outstanding product.

5works outstanding for my application
By William D. Jourdan
i purchased it to find the lot line stakes in my yard. it found them no problem. one was 3 inches underneath the surface. also found numerous pennies and some other junk that i didn't actually want to find. then i read the directions and learned how to turn the sensitivity down so i didn't find those little objects. i noticed it finds the re-bar inside my concrete driveway too. that wasn't in particular usefull, but it was fun to play with for a few seconds.
