Three Reasons Why the Metal Detecting Hobby Is the Best Hobby.
Years ago when I dug my first mercury dime I became convinced that the metal detecting hobby was the best hobby. Today I feel the same way.
Here are three reasons why.
First, the price of silver is skyrocketing to all time highs and with the economy in as bad a shape as it is, silver prices will continue to increase. With a metal detector, you can find enough coins that will eventually pay for the cost of your detector, and possibly more.
Every day, detectorists are finding silver coins and rings.
What other hobby is there that will give you a payback that is pegged to the price of silver? Coin collecting is another hobby you can profit from, and what better way to collect coins than by using a metal detector?
Second, is the often-overlooked benefit of exercise while metal detecting.
The need to be constantly walking, and bending down to dig has a positive effect on your body. You burn calories, get a cardio workout, and you are toning your stomach all at the same time.
If you become involved with metal detecting around the areas of old ghost towns, especially in the east, as I do, then your benefit from exercise will be increased. You will need to walk or hike for miles in order to locate the old settlements.
The wonderful advantage about this type of exercise is that you are doing it without complaining. You are having fun, and time flies by.
The third reason why I believe that the metal detecting hobby is the best, is because it can lead you to travel to places where you had never imagined you would be going to.
Metal detecting and treasure hunting has become my career. When I started the hobby years ago I never dreamed that it would take me to places that others can only dream about. However, I am not alone.
I have friends who are professional treasure hunters that have traveled to exotic places in search of riches and adventure.
I know many non-professionals who vacation in resort areas around the world so they can metal detect along the beaches. Some of them have been lucky enough to find enough silver and gold jewelry that pays for their trip.
The number of areas where you can use a metal detector allows everyone the opportunity to enjoy this great hobby and to benefit from it as well.
You may never find fame or fortune in the hobby, but you will find friends, good health, and many lost items that can pay for your time.
